Pink Hair Pieces

I did not get much sewing done this past week. Most of my time was spent reworking listing wordage and taking some more pics of home items. I did manage to finish off a couple hair pieces from some pillow leftovers though.

This first one is a headband attachment. I just wanted something simple and not too large.

The underside has a piece of velvet ribbon that the band can slide through. This way you can position the decoration anywhere you want. Plus, the velvet ribbon helps hold it in place.

This barrette is just about done. I was not sure if I wanted to add something more, but I think I will stick with the simpler is better theme. Since I still have to sew the front and back together, I do have time to change my mind. One thing I will most likely do is stuff it a bit to make it puffy.

Hair to Match the Pillows

Why should hair goodies match pillows? Um, no reason. I just had the perfect leftovers from all the cutouts. Some are going to be headbands and some will be on barrettes. This is what I have so far...

To match the ocean blue pillows:

To match the orange diamond pillows:

To match the olive circle pillows (these were yesterday's WIPs):

Hair Stuff

I have finally finished a batch of headbands that have been on hold for quite some time. I wish I had a fake head to model them on. My son's teddy bear just didn't cut it :P You can get the idea though. I have been wearing one around the house & am happy with the fit. The undersides are a velvety ribbon which kind of "sticks" to the hair, causing less slippage. That is usually the biggest problem for me & headbands. High forehead, thin (but lots of) hair plus not a tiny head equals headband sliding to the back of my head not long after putting it on. These lasted all day!

Then there is my barrette. I had just finished making a backpack & had some strips of fabric sitting off to the side. So I sewed them together, cut out some circles & sewed it all down with a couple buttons. Not the most attractive, but cute...plus, it's just to try the process. I was giving it a second look & decided it looks like a face almost. SO I may try to alter it to look monster/alienish. Teeth maybe? Or a tongue? Not sure yet. Any ideas?

This is the other strip I randomly sewed together for a barrette. I tentatively pinned it into a shape I like. Still not quite sure if I want to add anything or not. Well see.

September Challenge: Day 13

I skipped the bags today. I spent the day out with my oldest shopping for school stuff. He picked out some great clothes - he looks so old *sniff*. In the evening we cut his hair. Wow. Now he really looks old.
So, I didn't have much time left and while I could have made a mini backpack or 2, I chose to make a few headbands, watch Glee and go to bed.
Do any of you wear headbands? I am looking for an adult or two to try one out. I know that young tweens & teens had them fit well. But on me, with my high forehead, I always have a hard time with headbands. So, any takers?...okay - thank you "takers"! I am all set for guinea pigs - thanks everyone :)

New Stuff Made and Started

First up is my little monster embroidery piece. I talked about my monster sketches for felt stuffies in an earlier post. Well, I decided to stitch one up...mostly because once they turn into stuffies, they no longer look like the sketches :P This way, I get to see remember what they were intended to look like.

And this is the mini stuffie of that guy...

Next up are some more fabric headbands. The pink kitties are strips of the fabric - I was going for a haphazard look. It did not quite work out as pictured in my head. I may add some fuzzy yarn kinda squiggled along the top, not sure yet. The undersides are velvet ribbon, which stay in my hair so much better than plain old fabric.

And this is my "Started". It is going to be a flower table runner. I found it over at Moda Bake Shop. I am hoping to have it done and at least one pic by the end of Monday so I can post it for an entry into a contest at Sweetwater.

Stuff I Made and More Stuff to Make Stuff

Before I start...I am having a Christmas in July sale in both my ArtFire and Etsy shops until next Friday the 24th...15% off all non-clearance items.
Next weekend I will be at a two day art show in Redford. It will be my first 2 day event - hope I can stay awake. So if you live in Metro Detroit - come on by and say hi :) You can read more about the show here.

Okay, got the promo out of the way :) Secondly - I will be "on blog vacation" after this Saturday (but may not post again before that time)...so I'll see you later this month.

Now for the real start of the post:
I say stuff in the title because one, I don't want to list it and two, I don't always know what I will be making with it until it is done :)
The first is a Pink Floral print handbag (one of my Janet bags). I love the handle on this one - it's real fluffy.

And I made a matching zippered pouch ...none of these are ironed yet, or even have that last opening inside sewn shit yet...but the sun was out so I nabbed some pics while I could.

And a few more zippered pouches. I am trying to make sure to have a matching accessory, whether a keyring, pouch or whatever, for every bag.

I am also making some headbands. My cousin is a runner & has very long hair. She found some headbands that do not slip out, but they were rather pricey. So I offered to make her some. These are the first four. Two of them have a velvet underside, which is the type that is great for no slip. The other two have ultrasuede. I am going to have her try them out to test the slippiness. I know I love using that stuff for the underside of straps on bags for the non-slip quality...but not sure how it'll work with the hair.

And I have some more "test strips" cut for some more headbands. I also have 3 there on the left that are some really cool ribbon...I will make these last, when I have the headband assembly more down pat. I have been having trouble finding the right needle & tension combo...and have lots of scrapped tries in the garbage to prove it.

And lastly - some more fabric. My youngest picked out the Firetruck fabric when we were at the store. I asked him what he wanted me to make with it. He said he didn't know, he just liked it for something. And since it sounded so much like myself - I bought it. I think some of it will become a Lego pouch.
The skull prints, well, I just love skull prints. I am trying to work in more fun and/or kitcshy (how the heck do you spell that anyway?) fabrics and styles into my line. There are lots of embroidery & painting sketches I have done with that in mind...can't wait until I can get going on them.

Oops...I was wrong - I have this fabric too, from a swap on Craftster. If you are a fabriholic too, feel free to come on over & check it out. if you are not a member yet but want to do some swaps, join now & build up the posts so you have enough to play along during the next round.
