Three More Down

I think I am finding my groove. It is helping that my youngest is currently addicted to Lego Star Wars on our Playstation. He looks so cute walking around the room - woots to wireless controllers!- mimicking the movements of the players. It is amazing how well a 4 year old can play. Although, he does stop every few minutes to go build actual Legos....quirky kid - gotta love him!

Anyway, he has been a little less "Mommy do this" these past couple days and so - viola - backpacks! I have another half done. That only leaves 3 to go! I am aiming for a finish by the end of the weekend. In my mind I will also have time to get the photos done too. Too bad the world and my mind do not tend to mesh as well as I would like.

So for now, here's the next three...two of which have straps other than the usual nylon:

Backpacks, Slowly But Surely

I can't believe it was nearly 20 days ago...and I only have 3 backpacks completed. But they all have some parts done. The boring tedious parts like tacking on the straps so they stay when I sew the bottoms with the sides. Or hand sewing the pendants on the flaps.I will say this in my defense...last week was mid-winter break and the boys were home. It's always tougher to get things done when the little guy is allowed free. Free to keep me too occupied with him - and laughing most of the time...so totally worth it!
So, here's the first 3 completed...inside and out...

Now I need to decide if I want to wait until they are all done before I start the 'photo shoot' or try it in batches. It would be a much easier decision if I had enough space for a dedicated spot to take pics. And if the actual shooting & subsequent editing did not suck an entire day (or two) away.

Treasury Love

I get so thrilled when I see one of my bags in an Etsy treasury...and right now I have 2!! Double the giddy :) So click on over & see what other pretties are there before they're gone...

It's a Tropical Oasis curated by Spotted Cow Soaps.
If you ave been to any of my bogs before, you know I won't leave you without showing off some of the curator's goodies. And in this case, I can personally attest to just how awesome her soaps are... they clean me on a regular basis :)

And the second treasury....

New Order

I had a casual order set up just before Xmas. What is a casual order? Well, it was an unofficial, no money down discussion with a fellow Plurker about a bag she would like. I finally finished it. It was never meant to be started before the new year. But...well...it still took me a while to get back into the swing of things. She did say that is was a "just because" bag, so no rush. Well, here it is. I really liked how it turned out.

And there is even a zip pouch that goes with it. I have a clasp on the inside that it or keys could attach to also. I started making the making the pouches to be sold with this size back in the fall. They are rather large bags and I know that for myself, I like to have something smaller to keep stuff in for quick access.

And on another note...
I have been thinking about messenger bags a lot because of all the embroidery pieces I have completed but are just laying around by their lonesomes. No bag attached. No pillow. No hoops. I do not think I will make all of them into messenger bags due to the pricey'ness. I may list them as ready-to-hang in-the-hoop pieces with the option of being made into more. Not sure yet.
Any thoughts?

My Son and Duct Tape

Manly crafting at it's finest. I'd say it's just a guy thing...but duct tape rocks! If I were to be stranded on an island, I would definitely want some. Although, if it were a warm island I may sweat too much in his shirt. Yes, I said shirt. Of duct tape. It even has a zipper.
Where did he get the notion to make one? No clue. I am not even sure if he knows. It does have some tweaking to be done...he is already planning the next one. He has allowed himself the help of his mom who had reminded him that she may know a thing or two about constructing a pattern :P He did do an awesome job for winging it though I must say.

And because he found purple plaid duct tape and just couldn't wait to use it....a belt. Which he has worn the past few days. It seems to hold up quite nicely. Looks cute too. Okay, not cute...he's a 14 year old boy, let's call it ruggedly chic.

New Site to Shop

"Buy My Handmade Crap" -
Creative results, artisan prepared.

How could you not want to shop here?!? This new site is being brought to you by Glasstastic Treasures. She makes fantastic glass creations and is a staple on Plurk. What, you don't know Plurk either? Hop on over & check it out...it's like Twitter, but with a timeline & a tighter group of people. And yes, it's addictive.

Here's what she has to say about the site:

"I wanted to create a blog to showcase all the wonderful handmade artisans I have met since I started selling online. ~*~ Every artisan has a unique style which makes handmade truly wonderful. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay. ~*~ Thank you for vising Buy My Handmade Crap. If we made you smile or say ahhh, then our job here is done!"

The site is being filled with rapid carts from a bunch of great artisans with a wide variety of styles. It sounds like there will be posting from lots of these folks...and I am sure there will be some amusing hijinks as well. Loads of fun - loads of shinies...Let's go shop! Wanna start with mine? *big cheesy grin*

And I can't leave you without showing off one of her goodies:

Sewing Again...Finally

It's been quite some time since I have posted anything other than a Wordless Wednesday on this blog. Why? Well, because I have not done anything. Well, nothing creatively speaking anyway. After a week or so of non-sewing, I took hubby's advice and just "took January off". It was nice, but now it is hard to get back into the swing of things.

One of my goals/ideas for this year is to make things other than bags. And to only make a select number of styles. I narrowed it down to backpacks & clutches. I may play around a bit with them. Like with the clutches, I may only make fun & funky & embellished ones rather than the simple versions. Or just one funky for every 3 simple. Something like that. Anyway....
Here are the ready to be assembled backpacks ... exterior print is the top of the two...

Wordless Wednesday...almost

Some people asked about the meanings behind the symbols in my tattoo I posted the past couple weeks...here it is. Not sure how easy/hard it is to read. The original written notes were too light & in an odd place for interpretation..so I added text next to the symbols...not all of which ended up on the final tattoo.
